Maleeva to announce retirement
MCLEAN, Virginia (Dec 27, 1996 - 19:01 EST) - Bulgarian tennis star Katerina Maleeva will retire from the Corel WTA Tour next week, her management company Advantage International announced on Friday.
The 27-year-old middle sister of the three tennis-playing Maleevas won 11 singles titles during her 13-year career and represented Bulgaria at four Olympic Games.
Her older sister Manuela retired in 1994 and her younger sister Magdalena is still competing on the tour.
Katerina Maleeva will continue to live in Sofia with her businessman husband Georgi Stoimenov.
Maleeva is the third former top-10 player to retire this year along with Gabriela Sabatini of Argentina and Kimiko Date of Japan.
